You’re Next, driven by Joe Pavia Jr., won his second consecutive open handicap trot race Tuesday
at Pocono Downs.
The eight-year-old Yankee Paco gelding trotter, trained by Chris Carrubba, came charging down the stretch after Pavia, Jr. found racing room on the outside, going thee deep and beating Grain Of Truth (Ray Schnittker) by one-half length. Time of the mile was 1:53.4, a new life mark for Youre Next.
Bigpepper (George Napolitano, Jr.), the 8-5 second choice, left quickly from the seven post in the seven-horse field, taking the field to the opening quarter in :26.4, half in :55.4 and three-quarters in 1:24.3 with Youre Next sitting third for the first half of the race and fourth at the three-quarter pole.
Pavia, Jr. took the winner to the outside and was three deep coming down the lane to score the win over the even-money favourite Grain Of Truth.
This was the seventh win in 16 starts for Youre Next, who has now finished in the money 13 out of 16 races in 2010.
