Starting on Monday, May 13, Plainridge Park will be offering a new wager called the Plainridge Park Place Pick 8.
If the bettor correctly chooses a horse that finishes first or second in each of the Place Pick 8 races, the wager is won. If not, there will be a consolation payoff for any other wager(s) with the most correct selections and the pool will be carried over to the next live racing day. The wager will start in race three and run through race 10 daily, unless there are fewer than 10 races when that wager would start in an earlier race. The Place Pick 8 will not be offered when there are eight or fewer races.
The Plainridge Park Place Pick 8 is a $1 minimum wager with a 20 per cent takeout. The wager is expected to generate some large carryover pools and will be a solid complement to the already bi-daily offered Wicked Hi 5 pentafecta, a wager that has provided many large payouts since its inception.
“Plainridge Park has a very loyal customer base and as we continue to try and provide betting products that can result in large payouts to keep them playing here, we feel the Plainridge Park Place Pick 8 is designed to do just that," said Andrew Tavares, Mutuel Manager at Plainridge Park. "It’s a low risk, high reward wager that we believe will be very popular once it’s launched and are excited for its roll out next week.”
Plainridge Park’s Monday card features the top male pacers on the grounds and that group provides the most competitive racing each week. Track management believe it’s the perfect program for the Plainridge Park Place Pick 8 to make its debut.
