A perfect pocket trip was parlayed into a 10-1 upset by Savthelstdancforme in Tuesday’s $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Leaving from the rail with driver Alfie Carroll in tow, Savthelstdancforme pocketed up behind Winzel who led the group through first-half fractions of :29.4 and 1:00.2. Savthelstdancforme went into attack mode going to the three-quarter pole, and that post popped up in 1:30 with Winzel a mere nose in front. Savthelstdancforme kicked home in :30.2 to win by a nose over Seeyou Men in 2:00.2. Shoot The Thrill rallied late to finish third.
Ashley Duford trains the 11-year-old son of Striking Sahbra-Iam Worthy for Dennis Duford of Dresden, Ont. The veteran gelding posted his second win of the season and the 28th of his career. He recently surpassed $200,000 in lifetime earnings.
Only three horses managed to finish in Race 7 following an early accident which saw pacing mare Honor Roll fall after making a miscue.
Honor Roll, in rein to Nick Steward, was making a hard move to the lead when she broke and fell going into the first turn. She scattered the majority of the field before getting back to her feet. Nine Days and Daniellas Shadow also pulled up after being interfered with.
Honor Roll incurred a few minor scratches as a result of the fall. Remaining horses and drivers came away from the incident unscathed.
