Rideau Carleton Raceway hosted a set of $14,000 Preferred events during its Sunday evening program, with Make You Mine taking home top prize in the trotting tilt and Priceless Edition finding victory lane against his pacing foes

After playing second fiddle in his last two appearances, the Per Henriksen-trained Make You Mine powered away from the competition en route to a 1:56.4 score. The seven-year-old son of Self Possessed took over at the head of the lane for Henriksen en route to the 1-1/2 length decision over Perfect Vacation, the winner of the last two editions of the Preferred Trot. Star Ruffnready grabbed the show dough.
The triumph was the first of the season in nine attempts for the gelding, who is owned by T W Wilhelmsen Inc of Boca Raton, FL. The 20-time winner has stashed away more than $721,000 in his career.
Peter Heffering’s Priceless Edition swept past the six rivals he squared off with in the Preferred Pace, and that was music to the ears of longshot players. The six-year-old son of Real Desire, who was sent off as an 11-1 outsider, was last at the half but first to the line in the $14,000 tilt. The gelding uncorked a :28.3 final frame en route to notching the 1:54 decision over the odds-on favourite, Armadilo. Imjustalittleguy rounded out the top three.
Mark Steacy conditions the 29-time winner, who has banked in excess of $419,000 in his career.
Driver John MacDonald became the first driver of the season at Rideau Carleton Raceway to surpass the 100-win mark thanks to a five-win performance. The Russell, ON horseman has sat behind 1,778 winners to date, and he’s quickly closing in on $8.9 million in lifetime earnings.
