After back-to-back near misses at Northlands Park in her last two outings, Sign Of The Day turned in an impressive rally to post a 1:58.2 victory in Sunday’s $10,000 Mares Open at Alberta Downs

.

With Bill Tainsh, Jr. at the lines, Sign Of The Day settled into a mid-pack position as the gate sped away while Starring Role threw down an opening quarter clocked in :28.4. Starring Role was still in command at the half-mile marker in :58.4, but she was coming under a first-over attack from Goodbadanddeugly N. Sign Of The Day, in the meantime, has swung to the outside to ride second-over cover.

Positions were the same as the field raced by the three-quarter pole in 1:28, but things were about to change. Sign Of The Day vaulted off cover in the lane and used a :29.3 kick to drive away to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:58.2. Goodbadanddeugly N was a determined runner-up while Second Fancy came on strong to finish third.

The Robert Sabourin, Jr.-trained seven-year-old daughter of Life Sign, who is owned by Dr. Fred Kruszelnicki of Brooks, AB, improved her 2010 record to 2-3-0 in eight tries while pushing her lifetime bankroll to $129,944 in the process.
