For the second straight night at Harrington Raceway, a $60-plus horse took the featured event as Belinda Hughes’ Badlands Style won the $16,000 Mares Junior Open
.
Volo, a 30-to-1 shot, won Monday’s $18,000 headliner, the $18,000 Open for pacing colts and geldings.
The longshot sequence in the features continued Tuesday in the Mares Jr. Open as the front runners laboured in deep stretch, while Badlands Style surged on the far outside in the final strides for the narrow win in a four-way photo over Rock N Load and Angelwithanattitude.
Driven by Tony Morgan and trained by Bib Roberts, it was the third win of the year for the five-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover, who returned $113.80 to her backers. It was her first career triumph with Open company in just her 50th career start.
Drivers Jim Morand and George Dennis each had three winners on the program.
