Mary Kat was the 'cat's meow' in Buffalo Raceway's $15,278 pace for the ladies on Wednesday, May 7, as she won in a season's best of 1:55.4 over the fast track.
It was a battle for supremacy in the early going as Mary Kat and driver Joseph Chindano Jr. were sandwiched between American Jazz (Kevin Cummings) and Bolt Of Beauty (Drew Monti). The trio sorted themselves out finally just before the opening panel as Mary Kat hit the timer in :28.
From there, Mary Kat showed the way through fractions of :57.1 and 1:27 as American Jazz drafted along in the pocket while Bolt Of Beauty stayed hung out to dry, then dropping out of contention.
In the stretch, Mary Kat ($8.80) put on the afterburners and extended her lead and wound up taking the comfortable 2-1/2 length score over American Jazz while the favored Summer Slash (Ray Fisher Jr.) rallied for the show spot.
It was the sixth win in 16 appearances for the eight-year-old Mary Kat (Bettors Delight-Nannywithafanny), who is trained by Taylor Fritz for Lucky Label Stables LLC. The victory moved her seasonal bankroll to $51,711 and $416,379 in her career.
David McNeight III finished the program with three victories, while Denny Bucceri and Jim Morrill Jr. had doubles. Lester Mullet had a pair of training wins.
Racing will resume on Friday, May 9 with an 11-race program set. First post will be at 2:30 p.m.
