Launching from off cover, Mayhem Like Me reached the line in time to land an 11-1 score in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace on Sunday night (May 7) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Flash Cube cleared command to a :27.1 first quarter but bore consistent pressure since odds-on favourite National Debt could not find a spot at the pylons. National Debt hung along the rim and at Flash Cube’s side through a :55.1 half and 1:23.3 three-quarters. All the while, driver Robert Shepherd placed Mayhem Like Me third over and initiated his bid for the front heading to the final turn. Mayhem Like Me barrelled with the strongest momentum spinning into the lane and collared The Light Speed, who kicked off cover from second over, by a nose at the finish of a 1:52.4 mile. National Debt settled for third and Flash Cube took fourth.
Mandy Archer trains Mayhem Seelster, a five-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding, for owner John Hopkins. The pacer won his 15th race from 98 starts and has now banked $129,320. He paid $25.90 to win.
