Adkins Hanover was in a league all of his own Saturday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as he got revenge on his newly-emerged rival.
The Trevor Hicken-trained Adkins Hanover defeated Mr Irresistible in the $2,400 Preferred pace with a blistering 1:56.2 score over a muddy Charlottetown oval with a three-second variant. Corey MacPherson sent the Perry Burke owned Adkins Hanover off the gate through fractions of :28.1, :55.2 and 1:25.3 with no challengers in sight before winning by 13 lengths over Mr Irresistible (Jason Hughes), who had his win streak snapped at three. Eagle Jolt finished third for driver Marc Campbell.
It was a big night at the oval for Campbell with four wins on the 14-dash program including visits to the winner's circle with Mattadors Rose and Darn Quick, both in 2:04.2, along with a win aboard Island Energetic in 2:00.3 and Lexis Mandy in 2:00.1.
Junebugs Baby won the $2,000 back-up pace with a front-end mission in 2:00.1 for owner-trainer-driver Myles Heffernan of Nova Scotia. Woodmere Articblue (Campbell) was second with Instant Shadow (Hughes) finishing third.
The first trot class of the season saw Holy Molie Maggie victorious in 2:04.3 for a $1,550 purse with Kenny Arsenault in the bike over Neal (Brian Andrew) and I Aint No Lady (MacPherson). The eight-year-old daughter of Holy Guacamolie is co-owned and trained by Jeff Holmes of Orwell with co-owner Trevor MacDonald of Vernon Bridge. Arsenault had a driving double on the program and sits only 15 away from 3,000 career victories.
Live harness racing continues at the Red Shores Charlottetown on Thursday evening with a 6:30 P.M. post time as the capital oval switches to a twice-a-week schedule with programs on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
