The 10-race Tuesday, May 6 card at The Raceway at Western Fair District produced a pair of mild upsets in the $11,500 features, with LA Sun Control taking the Preferred Pace and R Royal Port scoring down the road in the Preferred Trot.

The Preferred Pace served as the fifth race of the card, with LA Sun Control leaving from post three at 4-1 with driver Paul MacKenzie in the bike. MacKenzie settled LA Sun Control into the fourth position off the wings of the gate while a fired up Hollys Treasure (Tyler Borth) rocketed to the lead from post six to cut the quarter in :28.2.

Hollys Treasure jumped it off on the lead entering the second turn, causing confusion throughout the field as horses checked to move around the breaking leader, with It Takes Two (Lorne House) jumping it off as well from third due to the interference. During this, LA Sun Control and MacKenzie wheeled to the outside, moving to the lead just prior to the half in :58.1.

LA Sun Control opened up by multiple lengths on the third turn before Docsphillycheese (Garrett Rooney) began to reel the leader in first-over at three-quarters in 1:26.1. Docsphillycheese powered to the leader's wheel around the final turn, with the stage set for a stretch duel turning for home. Under left-handed urging from MacKenzie in the lane, LA Sun Control dug in to fend off Docsphillycheese by a half-length in 1:55.4. Leave It To Luther (Jason Ryan) finished third, 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner.

Rick Edwards trains and co-owns LA Sun Control with Michael Tam. The five-year-old gelded son of Control The Moment-Sunbather has won four of 12 starts in 2025 and sports a career bankroll of $91,397.

The featured trot went as the Tuesday finale, with R Royal Port and Travis Henry leading every step of the way to score a 7-1 upset.

Leaving from post two, Henry hustled R Royal Port to the top, taking the field of eight to the quarter in :29.1. R Royal Port set sail to the half in :59.2 while The Great Reset (Lorne House) led the outer flow into third at three-quarters in 1:28.2.

Henry hit the throttle entering the final turn, opening up by 2-1/2 lengths turning for home while Marvin Hagler (Brett MacDonald) moved three-wide from second-over to begin a late bid. Marvin Hagler began to close the gap in the lane, but could not reach R Royal Port as he trotted to the wire 1-1/4 lengths clear in 1:58.1. Royalty Beer (Samuel Fillion) rallied from seventh at three-quarters to finish third.

Gerrard Demers trains R Royal Port for La Ferme Tag Inc. The six-year-old gelded son of Archangel-World Class Izzy has won half of his four starts in 2025, pushing his career earnings to $181,360.
