While harness racing typically associates world records with speed and shaving time off existing standards, one participant is trying to help set a world record by shaving off something else.
Kawartha Downs’ race announcer Evan Loucks is participating in a Guinness world record attempt for the number of heads shaved simultaneously on May 16 at the Peterborough airport.
All donations to the event will support the Cops For Cancer Pedal For Hope charity which benefits children suffering from cancer.
This isn’t the first time Loucks has used his hair for charity. “I participated in the Movember initiative to raise awareness for prostate cancer a few years back and we had a fundraising night at Kawartha Downs where I had my mustache shaved off by our staff,” he related.
People can donate in Evan’s name or sign up to participate in the world record attempt on the website (they will need a partner to shave their head).
Harness racing returns to Kawartha Downs on May 30 and continues every Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. (except September 19) through October 3. Evan may need one of the ball caps given out on opening night, which honours Kawartha’s leading driver Gord Brown, to hide the glare from his newly shaved head.
