Circling her cover rounding the final turn, American Passion passed pacesetter Thats It in the stretch to win the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open in 1:55.2 at Century Downs on Saturday, May 5.
The Sanford Campbell-trained daughter by American Ideal sat sixth as Thats It contested the front with G Ts Jamie through a :26.4 opening quarter. Nighttraintovegas tipped first over passing the stands first time, supplying cover to American Passion moving to the half, timed in :57.1.
Driver Phil Giesbrecht angled American Passion three wide approaching three quarters, beginning her bid through a 1:26.1 split after the leader. She drew within three lengths of Thats It into the stretch, eventually sweeping past to win by one-and-one-quarter lengths at the line. Remember Terror, tracking American Passion's move around the final turn, rallied for third.

Owned by Raymond Henry, American Passion won her second race in eight starts this season and her 29th in 136 starts overall, earning $213,842. The eight-year-old mare out of the Jate Lobell mare Felicia Hanover paid $12.00 to win.
