Reports indicate that hopes for a 2015 harness racing season at Sudbury Downs are becoming slimmer by the second.
John Snobelen of Ontario Horse Racing told CBC that "business difficulties" are preventing any form of deal from coming to fruition.
"The difficulties are business difficulties," said Snobelen. "They've been overcome in the past. I think that if there's some good, local ownership in horse ownership...that want to invest in racing, there's every reason why this program should go forward."
Although the Ontario Racing Commission has yet to receive an application from Sudbury Downs for 2015 race dates, MPP France Gelinas has been actively trying to save the track and have it operate as a non-profit entity.
"If a deal doesn't get signed soon, the horse racing season becomes so short that it's not worth the owners bringing their horses to Sudbury," she said.
Sudbury Downs last hosted live harness racing in October 2013.
