WFD Preferred To Nothingbutmach

Machness did the first-over work in Monday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District, but it was Nothingbutmach who took home the glory in the featured tilt.

Nothingbutmach, who was paired up with driver Scott Coulter, watched Smokin Bear chop out panels of :27, :56.1 and 1:25.1 before flipping off cover of Machness in the lane. A :30-second closing quarter was just enough for Nothingbutmach to defeat Machness by three-quarters of a length. Mach Of Ballykeel finished third and thus completed the Mach Three triactor ticket.

Corey Johnson trains the eight-year-old gelding for Debbie Element of Waterdown, Ontario. It was his fifth tally of the year – and the 13th to date – for the career winner of $131,297.

Two races later it was My Man Charley going down the road in the $7,000 Preferred 3 for pacers for the tandem of driver J. Harris and trainer Victor Puddy.

The six-year-old son of Mach Three-Break Of Day led through intervals of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:26.2 before snapping home in :29.3 to win by 2-3/4 lengths over race favourite Rays San in 1:56. Taking home the show dough was Jackstan.

Susan Strongman, Jerome Voldock and Limco Inc share ownership on the 22-time winner, who improved this year’s record to 4-2-0 from 12 trips to the track. The lion’s share of the purse lifted his lifetime loot to $290,410.
