In only his second start of the year, Sir Caviar flashed mid-season form and then some Wednesday at The Meadows when he captured the $22,500 Preferred Trot in 1:53.2, equaling the track record for older geldings
.
Sir Caviar, a five-year-old son of SJs Caviar-Sierra Flower K, led every step for Brian Zendt, reeling off fractions of :27, :56 and 1:25.1 en route to the 1:53.2 score. When his most likely challenger, the pocket-sitting Rembrandt Spur, broke stride before the final turn, Sir Caviar drew off to defeat Y Dat by 6-1/2 lengths, with Neptune T third. The time matched the mark Master Begonia established last year.
Leslie Zendt trains Sir Caviar, who extended his career bankroll to $217,561, and owns with Bill Zendt.
Eric Ledford and Mike Wilder each drove three winners on the 15-race card.
