Tymal Cherub returned to the winner’s circle at the Elora half-miler, Grand River Raceway
, after winning one of two Preferred events on the card.
Fresh off a win in last week’s $12,800 trot, Tymal Cherub prevailed again in this week’s edition for trainer/driver Callie Rankin. The 5-1 fourth choice made his move into the outside lane from fourth before the half and stuck his nose in front of the early pacesetter, Zorgwijk Fortunate (J.R. Plante), by three-quarters. The five-year-old son of Mr Lavec maintain his momentum down the stretch and prevailed by a length in 1:59.
Packin (Dave Boughton) finish second and Zorgwijk Fortunate was third.
Leonard Gamble of Etobicoke, Ont. owns the winner of four races this year. The bay gelding notched his 10th career win this evening lifting his earnings over the $150,000 mark.
In the Preferred 2 Pace for fillies and mares, the 7-2 third choice, Sparkle Candy, survived a first-over journey to win in 1:56.2 by a neck over Slomotion (Anthony Haughan), who carved out all the fractions, and Shami Cam (Mike Whelan), who rolled off second-over cover to nab the bronze.
Brad Harris drove the six-year-old daughter of Jate Lobell to her fourth victory of the season for trainer Jack Harris and owner William Dowhan of Hamilton, Ont. The 11-time winner has earned over $110,000 in her career.
