Driver/trainer Steve Mason was successful in his return to action on Friday night (May 4) at Truro Raceway after being sidelined with injuries sustained in a racing accident last year.
Back in the bike for the first time in a pari-mutuel race since suffering a shattered elbow and fractured shoulder in a September 16 accident at Exhibition Park Raceway, Mason won two of his three starts at Truro and hit the board in the other.
Mason was victorious with a pair of five-year-old Camystic geldings that were making their season debuts for owner Stephen Downey.
The longtime trainer and driver for the Downey Stables made his first winner's circle appearance of the year with K D Overdrive ($12.60), who defeated the popular pacesetter Stature Seelster by half a length in 1:58.4 in the $1,200 fourth race.
Mason later won the featured $1,675 Winners Over Pace, sending Jackson K Down ($9.60) three-wide turning for home and overpowering last week's top class winner Goliath Reigns to win by two and a half lengths in 1:58.3.
Live racing resumes at Truro Raceway next Friday, May 11, with first race post time set for 6:30 p.m.
