Prairie Illusion earned her second consecutive win off the claim for William Young on Friday night while coming close to the Fraser Downs track record in the top mares pace.

In the $10,500 featured event for $20,000 claimers and Open mares, Prairie Illusion and driver Jim Marino sat third for most of the mile while Call Me Up (Keith Clark) carved out fractions of :27, :56.1 and 1:24.1. The four-year-old daughter of Mach Three swept up to take over command around the final turn and out-sprinted her rivals with a :28.1 final frame to win by four and a half lengths in 1:52.4, coming within two-fifths of a second of Furious Five's track record for pacing mares. Phone Terror (Serge Masse) closed well for second while pocket-sitter Jans Rich Girl (Scott Knight) rounded out the top three finishers.

Prairie Illusion was claimed for $30,000 from the Clark stable by Young on April 12. Since then she posted a career-best 1:54.2 victory in last week's Open before lowering her mark with another winning effort tonight.

The 8-5 favourite paid $5.20 to win.

She now boasts a career record reading 14-7-11 in 51 starts with $111,641 earned in purses.
