First 2:00 Freshman Of 2018

With June almost upon us, the two-year-olds of 2018 will soon start to flood the racetrack. A handful of freshmen have popped up around North America thus far this season, with one already adding its name to harness racing's list of 2:00 performers.

During qualifying action on Wednesday (May 30) at Hoosier Park, two-year-old Tell Me Likeitis etched her name in the books as the early season leader with a hard-fought win in her qualifier. Sitting the pocket with driver Sam Widger in tow, Tell Me Likeitis allowed Desires Amy (Don Harmon) to set fractions of :30.2, 1:00.2 and 1:30.4 through three-quarters. Desires Amy then suffered an equipment break and went offstride, allowing Tell Me Likeitis to inherit the lead turning for home. Skyway Valerie (Peter Wrenn) darted inside the new leader and stuck a head in front at the top of the stretch but Widger kept the green Tell Me Likeitis to task and she managed to come back on and hit the wire a neck in front of Skyway Valerie in the 2:00 mile.

A $15,000 yearling purchase from the Hoosier Classic Select Yearling Sale, Tell Me Likeitis is a daughter of Tellitlikeitis from the open-class winning Sportsmaster mare Fox Valley Mickala. She's trained in Indiana by Brett Selby for Illinois-based owners John and Robert Esposito.
