Seawind Gambler pulled off a mild 7-1 upset for trainer/driver Allan Hohner in the featured $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Pace on Saturday at Sudbury Downs while the favourites fared a little better in the Maywood Series.

Seawind Gambler, a six-year-old son of Astreos, sat fourth for most of the mile while Jersey Dan (Mike Mac Neill) carved out panels of :27.1, :56.2 and 1:26.3. Once the field entered the stretch, Seawind Gambler sprung into action. The bay gelding sprinted home to win by a length in 1:57.1 over Jersey Dan and Sjs Nitelife (Wayne Mac Lean).

The second leg of the Mayflower Series for $4,500 claimers was also featured on Sudbury’s Saturday program.

Hey Hey My My and trainer/driver David Dowling won the first of four $3,500 divisions in 2:01.2 by four lengths. The five-year-old homebred son of Aces N Sevens notched his third win in eight ’09 starts for Thomas Alcock of Sault Ste Marie, Ont.

Jeneract doubled up in the series in the following division for conditioner Jean Noel Leblanc, who shares ownership with Louis Belanger of Trois-Rivieres, Que. With Gerry Belanger in the bike, the six-year-old gelded son of Jennas Beach Boy converted a perfect pocket trip into his second win of the season in five starts. Jeneract prevailed by a quarter length in 1:59.3.

Greengrass returned home a winner for the second straight week giving Dowling another win in the bike. Trained and owned by Mike Lamoureux, the eight-year-old son of Chill Factor notched his sixth win in 15 tries this year when he tripped the teletimer in 2:01.3 with one length on the field.

The final division went to Inntheriggin, a 12-year-old son of Broadway Blue, and trainer/driver Kim Pluta. The veteran gelding drew away to a five-length victory in 2:00.2 posting an 8-1 upset. The win was his fourth in 16 outings this year for owner Joseph Casagranda of Leslie, Michigan.
