Horizon Seelster became the first mare in Canada to go sub-1:50 this year at Woodbine Mohawk Park when winning the Friday, May 29 feature, a $26,000 conditioned optional claiming distaff pace.

Horizon Seelster, the heavy favourite in for a tag of $87,500, tracked outside longshot leaver Seaclusion N (J.R. Plante) loosely in the two-hole through sizzling first-half fractions of :25.4 and :53.2 before looping to the lead before the 1:21.1 third quarter mark for driver Louis-Philippe Roy. The popular David Menary trainee quickly opened up an insurmountable lead of a half a dozen lengths at headstretch and cruised home to the 1:49.4 victory, taking a new career mark by one full second. Verity Blue Chip (Doug McNair) found racing room between foes in the lane and rallied for second but was still more than two lengths back of the 1-5 bettors' choice at the wire, with Mybitcoin (Tyler Jones) the best of the rest six lengths behind.

Horizon Seelster, who was a 10-time winner last year with the majority of her starts at Rideau Carleton Raceway for trainer Ted McDonald, has won five of her seven races in 2026 since joining the Menary stable. She is currently owned by Julia Ferguson of Greely, Ont. and Lloyd Stone of Portland, Ont., along with new partners Coral Bailey of Tweed, Ont., and Shawn Veinot of Ottawa, Ont.

The five-year-old Bettors Delight-Hope And Faith mare has won 17 races and more than $153,000 in purses lifetime.
