Four days after North American harness racing witnessed its first two-year-old winner of 2021, Canadian harness racing now has its first victorious rookie of the year.

The mile took place on Saturday (May 29) during the qualifying session at Hippodrome 3R. In the morning's sixth dash, featuring eight maidens, Pascal Berube guided pacing colt Titanium Alpha to victory in a time of 2:03.4. It was the second appearance for Titanium Alpha, who finished sixth and paced in 2:10 one week ago.

A homebred owned by Ecurie Alpha of Metabetchouan, Que., Titanium Alpha (Hes Watching - Ma Terre) is trained by Sylvain Tremblay.

The family of Titanium Alpha boasts some solid pedigree. While unraced, Ma Terre is from pacing mare Desir ($536,720) and her second dam is Excitante ($647,824) — both standout pacing mares in Quebec. Desir's sister Intense is the dam of 2020 O'Brien Award finalist Lit De Rose, who was a 2:00.3 winner in her 2021 debut for owner/driver Guy Corbeil one race later.
