Veronicavermillion made a late dash from the back of the field for driver Brodie MacPhee to claim Thursday’s Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
It was an exciting finish with the Neil Bambrick-trained and Alex MacPhee-owned Veronicavermillion collaring the leaders to win in 1:57.3. Silky Britches finished second, with stablemate and fraction setter Andro Madi completing the triactor.
Diamond Mine, with Willie Murphy in the bike, captured the evening’s trot class in 2:05 for trainer and co-owner Cindy MacDonald and co-owner Tanya MacKinnon. BJ Eldorado was second, with Glencove Umay third.
Narragansett won the Allie Campbell pace for driver Jason Hughes and the Foxyhall Racing Stable. The pacer picked off newcomer Eagle Jolt in deep stretch for his second victory in-a-row. The time of the mile was 1:56.2. The Hughes Stable had a big night at the office rallying for two more wins with Jeramaya and Beckenbauer.
Ron and Jackie Matheson recorded a driving and training double on the card. The father-son team scored with Waterhook and Artners In Crime. Ron is only eight victories away from career win 1,000.
