A Game 'Zac' Wins By Open Lengths

Game Zac demolished the field of top pacers at Northside Downs in North Sydney, N.S. on Saturday afternoon, winning the $1,000 Winners Over Pace by open lengths for trainer-driver Alex MacNeill

After leaving from Post 3, Game Zac settled into fourth place while Cruisinart (Myles Heffernan), an open length winner himself just five days ago, led the way past the opening quarter in :29-seconds and the half in :58.1. At that point, Chapter (Greg Sparling) moved underway from third and edged past the early leader by three-quarters in 1:29.1 with Game Zac following the cover. Game Zac zipped by them both and sprinted away to score in 1:59.3 by seven lengths. Chapter and Cruisinart finished second and third respectively.

Game Zac ($11.50), a six-year-old son of Expensive Scooter-Game Xoxa, earned his first win in four starts this year and 14th career win. The $63,448 earner is owned by Kevin Gillis of Windsor, Ont.

The Fillies & Mares Pacing Series continued on Saturday with two $700 third leg divisions leaving Shes Got Appeal eyeing up a series sweep. The seven-year-old Park Place-Sharp Appeal mare survived a long first over journey and then kicked away by over five lengths for the 2:01.3 victory with owner and trainer Harold LeBlanc Jr. in the bike. Sarah Catherine (Shawn Lynk) rallied from last to place and Blissfull Riddle (Kevin Bailey) finished third. Shes Got Appeal, now three-for-three in the series, boasts 23 wins on her lifetime record with earnings totaling $83,940.

Euphoria Seelster scored her second straight win in the series with a 2:01.4 wire-to-wire effort for trainer-driver Edgar Jacobs and owner Dan Lewis of Blacketts Lake, N.S. Pocket-sitter Ammon Darcy (Harold LeBlanc Jr.) finished one and three-quarter lengths behind in second with first leg winner Fern Hill Thunder (Angelo Camilli) following for third. The five-year-old daughter of Modern Art-Eye To Eye, now two-for-three this year, notched her 11th career win and is just shy of $130,000 in earnings.
