John MacDonald drove five winners on Saturday (May 27) at Vernon Downs while capping it by winning the featured $7,500 trot with Discus Hanover.
In the feature, Discus Hanover ($6) pushed open the gate and led to the quarter in :27.3. He used a :29 second quarter and led to the half in :56.3. He started to open things up as he was first to three-quarters in 1:25.2. As they made the turn for home, Match My Miracle went all out but couldn’t get close to Discus Hanover, who won easily in 1:54.2. Match My Miracle had to settle for second. Lepanto finished third.
Discus Hanover is a six-year-old gelding by Credit Winner. He is owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst. It was his third win this season and the 35th win of his career.
MacDonald and Dewhurst teamed for two more wins on the night with Kisses From Above ($4.60 to win) and Sweet Sofie T ($5.30). MacDonald got his other wins with Zapaca ($3.50) and Somelucksomerock ($9.80)
Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Memorial Day (May 29) featuring four divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for three-year-old trotters. Also on the card is the return of the mini-horse races. The 12-race card starts at 12:15 p.m. (EDT).
