From assigned post-position 5, Euchred and driver Adam Merner scored again in the $2,650 Preferred Handicap Pace on Saturday, May 26 at Charlottetown Driving Park, winning narrowly in 1:56.1.
The odds-on favourite got off the gate third while Winter Blast set the pace from the rail. Leading through a quarter in :28.4 and unchallenged through a half in :58.2, the pacesetter endured final-turn pressure from Euchred following a 1:27.3 third-quarter as Czar Seelster ranged wide into contention off a pocket trip.
Euchred and Czar Seelster were heads apart into the stretch, with Euchred maintaining a slim advantage over the late challenger to the line, holding him off as well as Rose Run Quest rallying off cover quarter length away in third.
A six-year-old gelding by Shadow Play out of the Camluck mare Tipsy Taters, Euchred, owned by Kayla Habicht Walker, won his seventh race in 14 starts this season and his 36th in 109 overall, compiling $77,896 in earnings. Conditioned by Terry Gallant, he paid $3.30 to win.
