The Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre will host a special evening on Friday to benefit the injured Prince Edward Island native Kurt Hughes

.

Hughes suffered serious injuries in an automobile accident last November and has since been transferred from the Toronto Western Hospital to a rehabilitation center in Hamilton.

“From the standpoint as a young horseman he really had a lot of years ahead of him,” Lee Drake, director of marketing and media relations for Harness Racing P.E.I. was quoted as saying in an article from The Guardian. “We were very saddened by [the news of the accident] and were looking for anything we could do to help out.”

The evening will include a buffet dinner, a silent auction, as well as various other events. Tickets cost $50 each and can be purchased by calling Vanessa Cairns at 902-626-3643.

“It’s been pretty hard on our whole family,” said Hughes’ brother Jason. “But we’ve been there to support him. He’s working hard and doing well. He’s looking to get back some sort of lifestyle doing what he can. All the support everyone has been giving him, it’s really kept him positive.”

“It’s all to support him and his rehab,” Jason said. “So we can get him back and on the go.”
