Royalty Beer took the quickest way around the racetrack on Monday, May 26 as led went gate-to-wire to win the $11,500 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Samuel Fillion and the Jean-Francois Maguire student left post six in the field of six trotters, making a beeline towards the top. Throughout fractions in :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.2, Royalty Beer maintained a 1-1/2-length advantage over the field. Down the lane, R Royal Port (Daryl Thiessen) sprouted from the pocket to take a charge at the leader, but Royalty Beer had just enough in the tank to prevail by a quarter of a length in 1:56.3. The Great Reset (Lorne House) finished third.
Royalty Beer (Royalty For Life-Beer Maggs) is a six-year-old gelding owned by breeder Ecuries Maguire Inc. in partnership with Jean-Francois Maguire. He won his ninth race of the year in 16 starts and moved his career record to 27-17-18 with $391,867 banked in 89 starts. He paid $3.30 to win.
