Century Inspector A Maiden No More

It’s getting to be crunch time for a lot of young horses as stakes season is about to get into full swing, and one horse that falls into that category is Century Inspector.

The three-year-old son of Hes Watching-Mary Bits was 0-for-12 going into a $17,000 conditioned event Thursday, but he finally broke through for a maiden-breaking win for owner Eric Rosene who has kept the colt eligible to this year’s Pepsi North America Cup.

Jody Jamieson was parked through an opening quarter of :28.1 with Century Inspector, who then worked his way to the front and got a cheap second quarter of :30 which landed him at the half in :58.1. Jamieson turned up the speed the rest of the way, thought, as noted in remaining splits of 1:26.4 and then a mile clocked in 1:54.3. He kicked home in :27.4 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Getting Intuit. Twin B Raptor was third.

Sent off as the 1-2 favourite in the nine-horse affair, the Brett Lester trainee is now 1-1-0 in his first two starts of the season after going 0-2-5 from 11 starts as a rookie for former trainer Dr. Ian Moore. The lion’s share of the purse lifted his lifetime earnings over $140,000.
