One of the most dominant performers in recent editions of the Preferred Trot on the WEG circuit has been Slip Into Glide, and he bolstered his resume with a national season’s record-setting performance in Monday’s edition at Mohawk Racetrack.

With Mario Baillargeon at the controls, Slip Into Glide rushed to the lead from Post 6 and supplied an opening quarter clocked in :27.3 before releasing Flanagan Memory to the top. That O’Brien Award-winning performer chopped out middle splits of :56.2 and 1:24.3 before fatigue set in.

When Flanagan Memory weakened Slip Into Glide went for all the marbles, and his :27.2 closing quarter helped him to post the win by 1-1/4 lengths over Mego Moss in a sparkling time of 1:52.3. Wheeling N Dealin, another O’Brien Award winner, was third.

Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, Slip Into Glide improved his 2014 record to 5-4-0 from 15 starts for trainer/co-owner Ben Baillargeon of Rockwood and partner Craig Turner of Ingersoll, Ontario. The $17,000 payday boosted the classy campaigner’s bankroll to $420,713.

Hunch Man also set a national season’s record when he toured the Campbellville oval in 1:50.1 for driver Scott Young in Monday’s ninth race.

The three-year-old gelded son of Santanna Blue Chip-Famous Hunch threw down fractions of :26.4, :55.4 and 1:22.3 before cruising home to win in 1:50.1 over Company Man and Here Comes William.

Bob Young trains the pacer for owners Robert Poljanski of Kenilworth and Shawn Lauzon of Orangeville, Ontario. It was the first win of the season – and the third lifetime tally – for the career winner of $44,514.
