
Self Made led at every call in the $5,500 Preferred Handicap Pace to score his first Hippodrome 3R victory on Sunday, May 25.
Leaving from post five in the afternoon's feature, Self Made set fractions of :27.2, :58.1 and 1:27.2 en route to the 1:56.1 victory, with Ambitious Mind following 1-1/2 lengths behind in the pocket and first-over challenger Major Hill ending up third.
A $40,000 claim at Woodbine Mohawk Park in January, Self Made was a runner-up in his 3R debut in the Preferred on May 11 to Light The Torch. With that rival opting to race at Rideau Carleton Raceway tonight, Self Made was the 1-2 favourite in his second appearance in 3R's top class and paid $3 to win.
Self Made is also trained by his reinsman, Stephane Brosseau, for owners Robert Bergeron and Chantal Trepanier of Laval, Que. The win marked the first training triumph for Brosseau since 2021.
The six-year-old Fear The Dragon-Arrivista Hanover gelding won for the 19th time in his career and lifted his earnings to $284,617.
