Garrett Rooney went on a tear on Saturday night (May 25) at Hiawatha Horse Park, racking up six driving wins on the nine-race card, with three of those wins coming in line to Cameron McQueen trainees.
Rooney and McQueen teamed up to win race four with Trident Seelster in 1:55.2. McQueen owns the 10-year-old gelded bay son of Big Jim out of Take My Breathaway.
Rooney also posed for a winner's circle photo with McQueen after race seven, as P J Dena bested four of her fellow mares in race seven, also stopping the clock in 1:55.2. P J Dena was claimed from McQueen for $11,875 by Michel Latarte.
Something Royal (pictured above) completed the Rooney-McQueen hat trick by stopping the teletimer in 1:56.4 to win the nightcap.
The third race victory for Okeeheelee was part of the Rooney six-pack. In winning for Charlene Waters of Wyoming-Plympton, Ont. and Jody Clark of Alvinston, Ont., the Cassidy Schnieder trainee recorded a new lifetime mark of 1:57.2. The five-year-old brown trotting mare (Il Sogno Dream - Phoenix Goal) now has two wins in 18 starts in 2024 and has won 18 of her 78 lifetime starts, accumulating lifetime earnings of $98,919. Okeheelee was claimed for $11,875 by Écuries Guy Gagnon and Stephanie Gagnon of Gatineau, Que.
Rooney also won the first race with Dirty Dealing, guiding the trotter home in 2:03.2, and visited the winner's circle with Allstar Playboy after a 1:56.3 score in race five.
