Zip Car was treated to a second-over trip in Monday’s $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 & 3 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and she turned it into a 1:57.4 score for driver Scott Coulter.
Starting from the rail, Zip Car settled into the three-hole in the early stages of the featured tilt while Tail R Swift and Alibi Seelster battled to the quarter pole in :28.1. Alibi Seelster cleared to the top before coming under pressure from Shadows Wonder on the way to the half. They reached the mid-way point in :57.2 and they continued their battle to the three-quarter marker in 1:27.
Zip Car, in the meantime, was stalking the leaders from second over. Coulter pulled the trigger on the five-year-old daughter of Royal Mattjesty-Winbak Celebration going to the three-quarter pole and the mare used a :30.4 closing panel to win by a length over Tail R Swift. Cards That Count was third.
Trainer Heather Toll co-owns the 12-time winner with Mark Beaven of Dungannon, Ontario. Together, they watched the mare improve her 2015 record to 1-4-0 from eight starts with the victory. The $5,000 payday lifted the mare’s lifetime earnings to $103,138.
