War Boots Upsets In Meadows Preferred

War Boots, the venerable Meadows star who had been unable to win in the top class this year, showed the upstarts that these boots are made for pacin’ still as he captured Tuesday’s $25,000 Preferred at a juicy 13-1

.

War Boots gained prominence at The Meadows over the last several years with a characteristic late brush that brought him such victories as a 2008 mile in 1:49.4 - a track record at the time for four-year-old geldings. His only recent triumphs, however, had come in conditioned events.

That changed Tuesday when he followed first-over cover for trainer/driver Ray Paver and scored in 1:50.3, his fastest mile since 2008. Armbro Billow charged through the Lightning Lane for second, with the rallying Rock N Roll Star third. Shirley Mitchell owns War Boots, a six-year-old son of Memphis Flash-Fancy Boots who pushed his career bankroll to $335,283.

Paver enjoyed training and driving triples while Dave Palone drove four winners and Eric Ledford three on the 14-race card.
