There was reason to celebrate for the connections of Champagne Bettina after her $5,200 Preferred 3 Trot score on Saturday, May 24 at Hiawatha Horse Park.
Victories are never guaranteed, but five-year-old Champagne Bettina ($2.60) went postward as the 1-5 choice in the field of five. Driver Garrett Rooney understood the assignment, and placed the favourite on top early to play a little catch-me-if-you-can against his four counterparts.
After posting fractions of :27.3, :58 and 1:27.2, Champagne Bettina appeared well within herself and trotted home comfortably in :30.2 to trip the timer in a lifetime best 1:57.4. She was four lengths better than Shouldaknownbetter (Anthony Hamlin) with Workinitonbroadway (Donnie Rankin Jr.) on the bottom of the triactor ticket.
Darryl Laver trains Champagne Bettina for Leanne Davidson of Petrolia and Martin Blaisdell of Sarnia, Ont. With her seventh win of the season, the daughter of Archangel - Day Dream sports 19 successes with $116,797 in career earnings.
