Seaswift Joy N held off rivals on both sides on Friday (May 24) to keep her perfect Canadian record in tact through three starts in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Leaving from her outside assigned post, Seaswift Joy N overtook Double A Mint in a quick :26.1 opening panel and stole a :30.3 second-quarter breather. The six-year-old Bettors Delight mare continued to lead the field of seven distaffers past three-quarters in 1:25 before holding off the pylon-skimming Double A Mint and late-closer Cousin Mary by a neck in 1:52.1.
Locally owned by Brad Grant and trained by Tony Alagna, Seaswift Joy N started her North American campaign this year and won three legs of the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series at Yonkers Raceway before venturing north of the border to start her May win streak and end Double A Mint's reign in Mohawk's top mares class.
Sylvain Filion picked up the live catch-drive in the Friday feature with Seaswift Joy N's regular reinsman Doug McNair in Sweden compeiting in the World Driving Championship as Canada's representative.
Seaswift Joy N returned $2.10 to win as the overwhelming 1-9 favourite.
The victory was her eighth in 13 starts this year and 19th win overall, boosting her bankroll over the quarter-million dollar mark.
