Vernon Minority Owner Severing Ties

It has been reported that Gary Greenberg, a minority owner of Vernon Downs whose family has been a part of the raceway for roughly five decades, is severing his ties with the upstate New York raceway.

An article by The Observer-Dispatch contains an excerpt from an emailed statement from Greenberg that states that his decision is in protest to recent gaming decisions in New York.

As the report explains, Vernon Downs' principle owner, Jeff Gural, recently supported a government decision to award exclusive regional table-gaming rights to a local competitor, the Turning Stone Casino Resort.

In addition to stating that he is against the state's gaming decision and Gural's gesture of support, Greenberg explained that Vernon Downs' objective over the last 20 years was "to get a full casino.”
