Walkonthemoon and Ben Lookin captured the $5,500 opening-day conditioned features as Hiawatha Horse Park began its 2026 meet on Saturday, May 23.
Walkonthemoon toughed out a first-over grind in the rain for his first victory of the season in the trotting event. Robert Doyle slotted the eight-year-old stallion in fifth through a :28.4 first quarter, then marched him uncovered over the surface rated good through :59.1 and 1:29.4 middle fractions. After steadily advancing towards pacesetter Zig Zag (Lorne House), Walkonthemoon overhauled him down the lane and went on to a 1-1/2-length victory in 2:00.4. Classy Guy (Andy Moore) rolled up the pylons for second over Zig Zag.
Pam Forgie trains the winner, a son of Archangel-Classic Belle who is now one-for-eight this year, for Triple S Equine of Newton, Ont. Walkonthemoon has won 19 times in 150 career outings and earned $325,828. He paid $5.50 to win.
Ben Lookin gave his four rivals no chance in the pacing feature. The five-year-old asserted himself on the engine immediately and led a strung-out group through :27.1, :56 and 1:25 panels, with only pocket-sitter Moonlover Bovino (Lorne House) sticking with him. Ben Lookin then shed that rival in the final quarter as he streaked clear by nine lengths in a 1:54.1 win with Andy Moore at the controls. Moonlover Bovino held on for second over Gravitational (Scott Wray).
Ben Lookin took his first win of the season in three tries for Moore of Sarnia, Ont., who owns and trains him. The gelded son of Luck Be Withyou-Buckle Bunni is seven-for-29 lifetime with $56,116 in earnings. His backers received $7.70.
