Caviar N Crackers has mastered the $36,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park this month and served up another winning performance on Friday, May 23.
Campaigned by the husband and wife, driving and training team of Ed and Ashleigh Hensley, Caviar N Crackers extended her win streak to five, including the last four editions of the Mares Preferred.
Longshot Glenboro flashed early gate speed in her return to the top distaff class for driver Travis Cullen and led the field of six through an opening quarter in :28.2, but a front-end shuffle ensued as Century Jamila and Louis-Philippe Roy looped from the pocket at the quarter pole and then Caviar N Crackers looped those two from an early three-hole.
The streaking 6-5 favourite hit the half in :57.1 with Century Jamila hot on the Hensley helmet and getting the jump on the season-debuting double millionairess and former Horse of the Year, Sylvia Hanover, driven by Bob McClure, at the 1:26 third quarter mark.
However, Caviar N Crackers opened up on top and held clear through the stretch with a :26.4 final kicker to win once again, this time in 1:52.4 on a cool and cloudy spring evening. Century Jamila held off Sylvia Hanover in the race for place one length behind the popular winner, who returned $4.70 at the betting windows.
Caviar N Crackers cracked the six-figure earnings mark this year with the victory for the Hensleys. The five-year-old daughter of Captive Audience out of former Alberta Horse of the Year Crackers Hot Shot now boasts 17 career wins to go along with 25 other top three finishes from 77 starts and a bankroll totalling $363,681.
Caviar N Crackers will aim to wrap up a perfect month of racing when she heads to The Raceway at Western Fair District for next Friday's $50,000 Forest City Pace.
