The Thursday, May 23 evening card at Woodbine Mohawk Park featured a pair of winners under the guidance of trainer Luc Blais that stem from notable pedigrees.

Emoji Hanover has big shoes to fill as a half-sister to $2 million earner and world champion Emoticon Hanover (74: 27-16-13; 1:50.2). On Thursday's evening card, the filly made her sophomore debut a winning one and a tick off her career mark.

Chris Christoforou piloted the Luc Blais student in the $18,000 co-featured conditioned trot as they lined up in post six in the full field of 10. Emoji Hanover got away fourth and maintained position through the opening panel in :28.2 and half in :57.3. After the half-mile marker, Emoji Hanover pulled to the outside and continued to lead the charge through the three-quarters in 1:26.2. She achieved the lead at the top of the stretch and pointed home. Highland Kismet (Bob McClure) swept the field from last, but was unable to catch Emoji Hanover, who won by a half length in 1:54.3. Musical Ride (Sylvain Filion) completed the top three.

Determination owns the sophomore daughter of Greenshoe out of the Ken Warkentin mare Emmylou Who. The victory was her third career tally from six starts. She moved her career sum to $89,000. Emoji Hanover paid $9.30 to win.

Trainer Blais and owner Determination's second winner on the evening, Sea Glass (Downbytheseaside-Im With Her), won her first lifetime race from gate-to-wire by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:53.3 with Louis-Philippe Roy in the bike. Sea Glass ($2.60) is a half-sister to top pacer and millionaire Beach Glass (19: 12-4-0; 1:47.2).
