After capturing her first win of 2012 in her SBOA Stakes elimination last week, Legal Entity will state her case for top prize in the $161,218 final this Friday
at Mohawk Racetrack.
Driven by Anthony MacDonald, the daughter of Modern Art got under the wire in 1:52 for trainer Shawn Robinson and owner/breeder Robert Hamather.
“She certainly has a terrific chance to win the final, but like any other big race, a lot of it comes down to the trip,” MacDonald said. “I qualified her and raced her three times now, and she’s improved substantially in each effort.”
Legal Entity was a top juvenile pacer in the Ontario Sires Stakes program last season, as she banked $219,000 and assembled a 4-5-2 record from 13 starts. At the end of her 2011 campaign, Legal Entity ranked third in the provincial program with 182 points, behind Class Of O Nine and Apogee Hanover, who both had 135 points.
Now, with three starts under her belt this season, including a first and second-place finish, along with $19,600 in earnings, MacDonald is hoping Legal Entity continues to hold her current strong form.
“I can’t tell you much about her last season because I didn’t drive her, but she is a tough filly with decent size to her,” he said. “If she continues to progress the way she has already, the sky is the limit in terms of what her accomplishments could be. She has all the tools to be a top OSS filly again this year. ”
With the elimination winners having been allowed to pick their post positions for the final, MacDonald had no hesitation in opting for the rail spot.
“I went with Post 1 because she doesn’t have a quick turn of foot at the gate, but she has enough speed to push through for position,” the reinsman explained. “After having Post 9 in the elimination, the rail certainly will help her.”
The $159,218 SBOA final for sophomore trotting fillies will also be contested during the program.
