Chinnys Wings was treated to a two-hole trip in Wednesday’s $11,000 Preferred #2, and that helped him secure a win while treat his backers to a flashy return on their pari-mutuel investment
.
Trainer/driver Doug Bowins hustled Chinnys Wings off the gate quickly from Post 2, and the gelding battle to the quarter pole in :28.1 with Frill Seeker before releasing that foe to the front. Margarita Man engaged in battle with Frill Seeker at the mid-way point in :58.1 before rushing to the lead and getting a big head start on the rest of the field. Chinnys Wings looped around the gapping Frill Seeker, and once again planted himself in the pocket spot.
Margarita Man was five lengths the best at the three-quarter station in 1:27, but the big third quarter speed – and Chinnys Wings – eventually got to him. A :29.2 final frame was more than enough for Chinnys Wings to post the win by 2-1/4 lengths over Margarita Man, with Zorgwijk Jock rallying to finish third.
Bowins shares ownership on the seven-year-old son of Armbro Ricochet-I Quiver Not with Donald Brinkman of East Coulee, AB, and together they’ve watched the productive campaigner notch the 35th win of his career. The $5,500 payday bumped his lifetime earnings to $296,572.
