Dunmore Alpha went wire-to-wire to win Saturday’s $1,400 Open Trot while Outlawpositivecharg took the top pacing event at Charlottetown Driving Park

Dunmore Alpha left from Post 4 with trainer-driver Edward Smallwood and carved out fractions of :30, 1:01 and 1:31.2 en route to his second Open victory of the year in eight starts. The seven-year-old son of Black River-Princess Victory won by one length in 2:01.2 over Katies Victory (Ken Murphy) and Malahide (Mike Stevenson).
Dunmore Alpha returned $12.30 to win as the 5-1 fourth choice. Smallwood also owns the career winner of 27 races and $53,544.
With trainer Terry Gallant in tow, Outlawpositivcharg left from Post 3 and led the field of top pacers past the first quarter in :28 and half in :57.2, turning back the parked out Babes Gold (Vince Poulton). He gave way to Pans O Silver (Brodie MacPhee), who went wide around Babes Gold and took control before the 1:27 third quarter mark, but Outlawpositivcharg kicked home in :29.3 to come back on for the 1:56.4 victory. Pans O Silver finished three-quarters of a length behind while Roi De Coeur Bg (Brian MacPhree) closed well from the backfield to show.
Outlawpositivcharg paid $4.40 to win as the popular choice. He is owned by Calgary’s Fred Lamont and is now three-for-five on the year. The six-year-old son of Blissfull Hall-Electromagnetic now sports 31 wins and $117,486 in earnings on his lifetime record.
