P L Spencer Tops Trio Of Featured Trot At Mohawk

A trio of $18,000 conditioned trots highlighted the Thursday (May 22) evening card at Woodbine Mohawk Park with P L Spencer posting the fastest of the three races, winning his race in 1:55.4. 

P L Spencer and Bob McClure took the outside in the field of seven trotters. As the gate pulled away and the group of horses rounded the turn, Ivy Lynn (Jean Rene Plante) settled in on the lead, followed by Ultra Lady S (Trevor Henry) in second and P L Spencer in third. Clarissa W (Jody Jamieson) was parked out to the quarter in :28 before taking command through the half in :58 and three-quarters in 1:27. P L Spencer stayed inside along the pylons as the field shuffled around, falling back to seventh by seven lengths at the third quarter pole. 

Having to kick into another gear, P L Spencer chipped away at the lead one-by-one down the lane. Steps before the wire, the Stephen Bossence student gained the upperhand and won by a half length in 1:55.4. Clarissa W finished second and Ivy Lynn rounded out the top three. 

Stephen Bossence co-owns the three-year-old Resolve - P L Indyanaca gelding with Richard Thompson, Derek Reid, and E C S Racing LLC. He was bred by Prince Lee Acres. P L Spencer won his second race of the year and third career race in eight starts, banking $30,550 of his $40,150 career bankroll this year to date. He paid $8.50 to win.

P L Sapphire took a gate-to-wire trip around the 7/8ths oval to win her split in 1:57.1. After posting fractions in :28.1, :59.1, and 1:29.1, McClure and the Matthew Dupuis student powered home to win by a neck over French Vodka (Chris Christoforou). Alimony Mike (Tyler Jones) finished third.

Bred by Prince Lee Acres, the three-year-old daughter of Father Patrick - Oho Diamond is owned by Prince Lee Acres and Pl Jill LLC. P L Sapphire won her second race of the year and second career race in 12 starts, moving her sum to $22,000 for the year and $38,320 in her career. She paid $4 to win.

Finally, Kadiddle (Philippe Hudon) got away fifth through the :28.2 quarter before pulling first over through the half in :58.4 and three quarters in 1:28.4. Charging home with a :29 final panel, Kadiddle won her $18,000 class by a head in 1:57.4. Royal Moon (Travis Henry) finished second and Zette Athena (McClure) was third.

The four-year-old Kadabra - Dottie mare was bred and is owned by Home Stretch Holdings Inc. Unraced as a freshman and sophomore, Kadiddle won her second race in 10 starts, pushing her sum to $31,650. She paid $8.80 to win.
