Rose Run Vortex Stuns Them In Preferred Pace

The betting public didn’t put much faith into Rose Run Vortex’s chances of winning Monday’s $13,000 Preferred Handicap for horse and gelding pacers, but that didn’t stop the gelding from turning a two-hole trip into an 18-1 upset score in the featured affair.

Rose Run Vortex, in rein to Colin Kelly, pushed out from the rail and grabbed a two-hole trip behind Cheddar Bay.  That foe sailed through fractions of :28, :58 and 1:26.2, but he wasn’t able to take it all the way.  Kelly revved up Rose Run Vortex’s engine late and the pacer’s :28.2 closing kick was enough to earn him the nose decision over Cheddar Bay in 1:55.  Taking home third prize was the lapped-on favourite, St Lads Cash.

Trainer Terry Gallant co-owns the six-year-old son of American Ideal-Aspectofmusic Stacey Smith Robinson of South Mountain, Ont.  The victory was his third of the season and the 10th of his career. The lion’s share of the loot lifted his lifetime earnings over $100,000.
