Discus Hanover, Northern Rein Best At Vernon

Discus Hanover (Truman Gale) and Northern Rein (Steeven Genois) grabbed the co-features at Vernon Downs on Saturday (May 21). 

In the $7,700 Open Trot, Credit List (Justin Huckabone) went straight to the front and led to the first quarter in :27.2 as Discus Hanover tucked right in the pocket second. Credit List used a :30.1 second quarter to breeze to the half :57.3.  Bourbon Express (Howard Okusko Jr.) was the first to make a move going first-over around the final turn.  Credit List shook him off and led to three-quarters in 1:26.4. 

As they reached the stretch Discus Hanover popped the pocket and the race was on.  Discus Hanover blew right on by and won easily in 1:55.1.  Jenny Lake (Steeven Genois) came up to get second.  Credit List had to settle for third. 

Discus Hanover ($10.40) is a five-year-old gelding by Credit Winner.  He is owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst.  It was his first win this season, and he now has 29 career victories. 

In the $7,700 Open Pace, Wind Blast (Justin Huckabone) put up all the early fractions.  First to the quarter in :27.1. Led to the half in :57.1.  Was the first one to three-quarters getting there in 1:25.3. 

As they made the turn for home Northern Rein made his move first-over and wore down second place finisher Wind Blast to win in a seasonal best of 1:52.3.  Golden Gun (Barton Dalious) came charging later to finish a close third. 

Northern Rein ($7.60) is a seven-year-old gelding by American Ideal.  He is owned by New York Standardbreds and trained by Kerin Warner.  It was his third win this season and 14th career victory. 

Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (May 27) with a post time of 6:05 p.m.
