Another Close Call For Tajmeallover

Published: May 22, 2016 08:35 pm EDT

Tajmeallover earned her second photo finish victory of the year in the $11,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, which kicked off the rainy Sunday (May 22) afternoon harness racing card at Century Downs.

Tajmeallover followed American Passion through opening fractions of :29.1 and :58.4 in the sloppy conditions before making her move. She took the lead at the next pole in 1:29 and then held off the wide-rallying Sing Like An Angel in 1:58.3. Sing Like An Angel went by past the wire, but was a nose short in the photo finish. Nighttraintovegas came on for third-place, finishing three-quarters of a length behind in between the top two, while Balinska Hanover and American Passion completed the short field.

While Sing Like An Angel and Nightraintovegas have taken turns winning the Mares Open in some close races in recent weeks, Tajmeallover had been right there as a top-three competitor. Sent postward as the 4-5 favourite, she paid $3.80 to win.

Tajmeallover has hit the board in all nine of her Open starts this year to earn $23,500 for her connections. The homebred five-year-old daughter of Tajma Hall is trained by Marjorie Dumont and owned by driver J.F. Gagne, Peter Van Seggelen, Carl Warnaar and Tapron Holdings Ltd.

Sunday marked the fourth consecutive card at Century Downs in which Travis Cullen has earned a training triple. His Sunday stars were Raging Fingers ($2.60), Jet Blue Burner ($4.30) and Caliscape ($4.80). The Cullen stable sends out eight starters on Monday, including Who Doesnt and Outlaw Gunpowder in the featured $10,000 Open. Post time is 1:10 p.m.
