Bill Sanders Sand Windsor ($11.40) held off fast-closing longshot Allswelthatendswel to win the $109,000 Miller Lite Courageous Lady

at Northfield Park by a head Saturday in 1:54.3.

It was the second consecutive win in the race for Sanders, of McDonald, Tennessee. His Sand E Fiftyfive won last year’s edition of the Courageous Lady. Miss Sand Creek finished third.

Favourite Cowboys Dreamer took the field past the quarter mile mark in :26.4, but driver Aaron Merriman powered Sand Windsor to the front before the half, clicking the timer in :55-seconds and put away a challenge from Hawks Cry Electra at the three quarter-mark of the race, which was timed in 1:23.3. Sand Windsor tired late, but had enough left to earn the $54,500 winners share of the purse, pushing her career earnings to $119,750.

Jim Arledge, Jr., trains the winner, a three-year-old daughter of Real Desire.
