Rosetown Mary pounced at the pylons to capture the featured conditioned pace for fillies and mares at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday, May 21.
Corey MacPherson guided Rosetown Mary from post three in the $4,650 ninth-race feature, putting her on top first before releasing Moon Bound (David Dowling) to the front at the quarter in :28.1. Moon Bound’s stablemate, Shake N Blake (Ken Murphy), came calling at the half in :59.2 and charged to the lead going to three-quarters in 1:28.4. Rosetown Mary was buried in third turning for home but found her way up the passing lane in the stretch and surged to a 1:57.3 win for trainer MacPherson and owners Rosetown Stable of Stratford, P.E.I. and Taylor MacPherson of Cornwall, P.E.I. Saulsbrook Pika (Kenny Arsenault) closed sharply for second while Brokeandoutofgas (Landon Campbell) completed the triactor.
Rosetown Mary improved to two-for-three on the year as she rose in class following a win a week ago. The six-year-old daughter of Pang Shui-Brodys Leona took her 28th career win in 89 starts and raised her earnings to $137,863. She paid $6.90 to win.
Staggerette ($3.20) kicked off the program with a front-end score in 1:58.1 as the first half of a double for trainer-driver MacPherson.
Dee delivered the biggest upset of the night in Race 7, paying $37.90 to win for driver Adam Merner and trainer Ashley Gamester. The four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Silent Serenity defeated Therealprincess (Mike Downey) and Islebetu Islebeatu (Ryan Desroche), who were second and third, respectively, in 1:57 for owners Robi and Simon Hughes of Stratford. The triactor paid out at $1,624.
Merner had a driving triple, also winning with Lady Llamrei ($3.90) in Race 3 from his own barn and Neptune Seelster ($2.70) for conditioner Michael Gallant in Race 8.
