After making his sophomore debut in qualifying action one week ago, O'Brien Award winner Alarm Detector sharpened for his upcoming campaign with another impressive qualifier at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (May 21).
With regular pilot Trevor Henry at the controls, the son of Chapter Seven chopped out all the fractions in his qualifying mile. After a :29.1 opener and a :59 half, Alarm Detector picked it up over the last half with a 1:27 third panel and a mile in 1:55.4.
Finishing second in the qualifying mile, 15 lengths back was OSS Super Final winner Draft Year, making his seasonal debut for trainer Brad Maxwell and driver Randy Waples.
Owned by Tom & Elizabeth Rankin, Claude Hamel and Santo Vena, Alarm Detector won six of seven starts and banked $276,870 during his rookie season. The Chapter Seven colt’s biggest victory was a Canadian record 1:52.4 score in the $400,000 William Wellwood Memorial on September 18.
The Ben Baillargeon trainee is eligible to next month’s Goodtimes Stakes (June 16) at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The eliminations, if necessary, will take place on June 8.
